“Ami to engineer noi.” (I am not an engineer.)
B.A. pass. B.Com pass. Higher secondary pass. Working in a shop. Sitting at home after college. They all carry the same doubt — that the AI world has a gate, and the gate says “Engineers Only”.

Why the “Engineers Only” Myth Exists
The myth has a simple source. When news channels say “AI jobs”, they show one picture: a coder in a big Bangalore office earning ₹20 lakh a year.
That job exists. It needs engineering. It is also maybe 10% of the AI job market.
The other 90% is invisible in the news: the people who USE AI every day to create content, manage pages, design graphics, and run office work. These jobs ask for skill and proof of work — not an engineering certificate.

1. AI Content Writer
The work: Writing blogs, website content, product descriptions, and ad copy — using AI to draft fast, then improving it with human touch. What you need: good language sense, prompting skill, and honesty about editing AI output properly. Who fits: arts students shine here.
2. Social Media Manager
The work: Running Facebook and Instagram pages for businesses — planning posts, making creatives with AI, replying to messages, reading simple page reports. What you need: AI design + writing tools, consistency, and understanding what local customers like. Every market road in Bengal has ten businesses that need this and zero people to do it.
3. AI-Assisted Graphic Designer
The work: Posters, banners, menus, wedding cards, YouTube thumbnails — made with Canva and AI image tools. What you need: eye for design (this grows with practice) plus tool skills. Extra scope: local printing presses and studios constantly need this work done.
4. Digital Marketing Executive
The work: Helping businesses run ads and grow online — where AI now writes the ad copy, suggests audiences, and makes the creatives. What you need: AI tools + basic marketing sense. Small agencies hire fresh people for this and train them on the job.
5. Virtual Assistant (VA)
The work: Remote office support — emails, scheduling, data organisation, research — for clients in India and abroad, done from home with AI making you fast. What you need: reliability, decent English (AI helps you polish it), and tool skills. Special benefit: completely work-from-home, popular with women restarting careers.
6. AI Data Annotator / AI Trainer
The work: A lesser-known one. AI companies pay people to label images, check AI answers, and rate AI responses — the human homework that makes AI smarter. What you need: attention to detail and patience; some projects want specific language skills, and Bengali speakers are sometimes exactly what they need. Mostly remote, project-based work.
7. Office Executive with AI Skills
The work: The regular office job — upgraded. Reports, Excel sheets, presentations, and letters done with AI in half the time. Why it matters: between two candidates for the same office post, the one who says “I use AI tools, here is my work” wins. This is the quietest but biggest category of all.
8. Freelancer (Mix of Everything)
The work: Your own boss. Content for one client, posters for another, page management for a third — building slowly from your para to online platforms. What you need: 2–3 of the skills above plus patience for the first slow months. The ceiling here is the highest of all eight.
What About Salary? (The Honest Numbers)
Same honesty as always on this blog. These jobs typically start around ₹8,000–15,000 per month locally, and ₹15,000–25,000 in Kolkata or remote roles. With 1–2 years of proven work, the numbers climb — and freelancers with steady clients often cross what local salaried jobs pay.

What Employers Actually Check (Instead of a Degree)
If not an engineering degree, then what? Three things, in this order:
- Proof of work. Ten good samples — posters you made, content you wrote, a page you grew — beat any certificate. Employers want to SEE, not read.
- Speed with tools. In interviews for these roles, you may simply be asked to make something on the spot. Daily practice is your real preparation.
- Reliability. Do you reply on time? Deliver on time? For freelance and VA work especially, this beats talent. Half the market fails at just this.
