1. B.Tech AI/ML Degrees
Deep technical study — Python, maths, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision. Campus placements at the end. But you need class 12 with science, entrance exam ranks, 4 full years, and lakhs of rupees. This is the engineer road. Serious commitment.
2. University Certificate Courses
Jadavpur University’s 6-month certificate covers AI basics, Python, and data science with projects. Good university name, reasonable fee. But classes are in Kolkata, batches are large, and you still need comfort with technical study. Best for graduates adding a university certificate to their CV.
3. Private Training Institutes
This group has two very different sub-types, and people mix them up all the time:
- AI with Python / Data Science courses — technical training for ML jobs. Longer, costlier, needs coding interest.

Before joining ANY private institute, ask one question: “Is this course about USING AI or BUILDING AI?” If the counsellor cannot answer clearly, walk out.
4. Online Platforms
Cheapest option, world-class content, learn any time. But here is the hard truth from my own teaching experience: most people who start alone online quit within 2–3 weeks. No teacher, no batch, no fixed time — motivation dies quietly. Online works best for very self-disciplined people with good English.
How to Choose: 4 Simple Questions
Ask yourself these four questions. Your answers will point to your course automatically.
Question 1: Do I want to BUILD AI or USE AI? Build = B.Tech or Python courses. Use = AI tools course. (90% of people need “use”, not “build”.)
Question 2: How much time do I have? 4 years free = degree possible. A few months = certificate or tools course.
Question 3: What is my budget honestly? Never take heavy loans for short courses. AI tool skills should not cost lakhs.
Question 4: Can I stay regular without a teacher? Be honest here. If you have already left two YouTube playlists half-finished, choose classroom learning.

- “100% placement guarantee” in writing-free promises. Ask for the guarantee on paper. Watch how fast the topic changes.
- “Learn full AI in 7 days.” Nobody learns a real skill in 7 days. This is a trailer, not a course.
- No demo class offered. A good institute always lets you sit in one class first.
- Pressure to pay today. “Offer ends tonight” is a sales trick, not education.
- Course content they cannot show. Ask for the full syllabus, week by week. No syllabus = no plan.
