ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini: Which AI Should a Beginner Use First?

ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini — three big names, one confused beginner. Which one should YOU open first? I use all three every week for teaching and institute work, so today I will compare them honestly for a complete beginner: what is same, what is different, and my clear final advice.

A funny thing happens in our first AI class.

I ask, “Who has heard of ChatGPT?” All hands go up.

“Who has heard of Gemini?” Half the hands.

“Who has heard of Claude?” Two or three hands, slowly, unsure.

Yet all three are top-class AI assistants, all three have free versions, and knowing when to use which one is a small skill that puts you ahead of most users. Let me introduce them properly.

Meet the Three

  • ChatGPT — made by OpenAI (USA). The one that started the whole AI wave in 2022. The most famous, with crores of daily users.
  • Gemini — made by Google. Connected to the Google world you already live in — Search, Gmail, Android, YouTube.
  • Claude — made by Anthropic (USA). Less famous in India, but well known among writers and professionals for the natural, human-like quality of its writing.

Think of them as three excellent teachers in the same school. All three can teach you. But each has a different personality and a different strongest subject.

First, What Is SAME in All Three

Before the differences, know this — for a beginner, the three are more similar than different:

  • All three chat with you in normal language — English, Hindi, and Bengali too.
  • All three have free versions good enough for learning.
  • All three can write letters, explain chapters, make plans, fix English, and brainstorm ideas.
  • All three have paid plans around the same price (roughly ₹1,700–2,000 per month for the standard plan).
  • The 7-step prompting method I taught in Prompt Engineering for Beginners works identically on all three.

So relax — there is no “wrong” first choice here. Now, the real differences.

ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini — the beginner’s view, 2026

ChatGPT: The Famous All-Rounder

Why beginners love it: It does a bit of everything well — writing, ideas, explanations, images, even voice conversations where you talk and it talks back. Every tutorial and YouTube video uses it, so help is everywhere. And because everyone knows the name, saying “I use ChatGPT” in an interview needs no explanation.

Its weakness: The free version has usage limits — heavy use in one sitting and it asks you to wait. Also, like all AI, it sometimes gives wrong facts with a confident face. Verify important things.

Gemini: The One Already in Your Pocket

Why beginners love it: If you have an Android phone, Gemini is likely already there — no new account drama. Its free tier is the most generous of the three, it handles Bengali nicely, and it connects with the Google apps you use daily. For research questions, it reaches into Google’s fresh information naturally.

Its weakness: Its answers can feel a little flat or “official” compared to the other two — fine for information, less charming for creative writing.

Claude: The Quiet Writing Expert

Why professionals love it: Claude writes the most naturally of the three — its letters, essays, and content sound like a thoughtful human, not a machine. It is also excellent with long documents: give it a big PDF or a long report and it handles the whole thing carefully. Many content writers quietly do their serious work on Claude.

Its weakness: The free version has tighter daily limits than the other two — you get quality, but less quantity. That is why I suggest it as your second tool, not your first.

My Verdict: Which Should a Beginner Use First?

Here is my honest, classroom-tested advice.

Week 1: Start with ChatGPT. It is the friendliest teacher for your first steps, and every guide on the internet (including my posts) uses it for examples.

Week 2: Add Gemini. It is free, probably already on your phone, and now you can do the smartest beginner trick — ask both the same question and compare answers. When they agree, you can trust the answer more. When they disagree, you have learned to check. This one habit builds real AI judgement.

Month 2 onwards: Add Claude for serious writing. When you start doing content work, applications that matter, or anything where writing quality earns money — bring in Claude and feel the difference yourself.

Notice what I did NOT say: “pick one forever”. The three are free. Using them together is not extra work — it is the professional way.

Should a Beginner Buy the Paid Plans?

No. Not in your first months. The free tiers of all three together give you more than enough power to learn and even start earning.

Think about paying only when a specific limit blocks work that MAKES you money. And when that day comes, note that cheaper plans exist too — ChatGPT has a lower-priced “Go” plan in India (around a few hundred rupees monthly) below the full ₹1,700-level plans. Pay for what your work needs, not for the badge.

FAQ: ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini

Do all three understand Bengali?

Yes — all three read and write Bengali. Quality varies by task, so try your question in Bengali on each and see which style you like. For studying in Bengali, this is a blessing our generation never had.

Is one of them the “smartest”?

They trade the crown every few months as new versions release — what is true in January changes by June. For beginner tasks, all three are more than smart enough. The bigger difference in YOUR results will come from your prompting skill, not from which AI you picked.

Why does the same question get different answers from each?

Each AI is trained differently by a different company — like three teachers educated in three universities. Same question, different explanation styles. This is exactly why the compare-two-AIs habit is so powerful for learning.

Is there a full course that covers all these tools?

Yes — our AI Course for Beginners in Habra teaches ChatGPT, Gemini, and the full toolkit (I listed all ten in AI Tools for Students) over 3 months with real projects. No coding, any background welcome.

Final Words

Back to that classroom moment — the two or three unsure hands for Claude.

By the end of the course, those same students use all three AIs like a carpenter uses different tools. ChatGPT for daily work. Gemini for research and quick phone tasks. Claude when the writing has to be excellent.

Nobody asks a carpenter, “Hammer vs saw — which is best?” The answer is obviously: best for WHAT?

So stop searching for the one perfect AI. Open ChatGPT today, add Gemini this week, meet Claude next month. Three free teachers, waiting in your pocket.

Class is open. Walk in.

Want hands-on practice with all three, guided by a teacher? Visit our AI Course for Beginners page or drop into our Habra centre for a free demo class — we will show you the same question answered by all three AIs, live.
